Ai, sillä on omiakin hahmoja? Sylvar WIP 1/?./Oh, that person has original characters too? Sylvar WIP 1/?.

Ottakaahan siitä pari biisiä, joita olen hieman liian aktiivisesti kuunnellut kirjoittaessani. Alun perin tämä hahmo oli vain roolipelihahmoni, mutta sittemmin hän kasvoi tällä hetkellä tekeillä olevan fantasiaromaanini päähenkilöksi.
Saas nähdä, tuleeko siitä projektista mitään, mutta yrittänyttä ei laiteta.

Here are a couple of songs I have been listening to almost too actively while writing. At the beginning this character was just one of my roleplay characters but lately he has become the main character of a fantasy novel I'm writing.
I have no idea how well that project will go but at least I'm going to try.

Eipä sillä, että nuo kappaleet liittyisivät kovin paljon itse hahmoon, mutta nuo nyt pyörivät tuossa taustalla.
Mutta kerrottakoon nyt itse hahmosta.
Hänen nimensä on Sylvar Fidus. Aluksi hän oli mielessäni haltija, mutta sittemmin hän muuntui tietäjäksi. Luonteeltaan hän on kylmä ja kyyninen, eikä hän luota käytännössä kehenkään. Hänen klaaninsa asuu metsässä, mutta hän itse on sieltä joutunut kuninkaan palvelukseen. Muuten hänet olisi teloitettu vääräoppisena.
Sukunimensä tarkoittaa uskollista, mutta lojaali hän on vain niille, keiden hän kokee sen ansaitsevan. Jos hänen luottamuksensa petetään, on hän valmis kostamaan. Yleensä hän on vastustajaansa viekkaampi, mutta hänen heikko kohtansa on se, että hän suunnittelee ja ajattelee jopa liikaa, jolloin hän alkaa epäillä myös itseään.
Vaikka kuningaskunta, jossa hän asuu, on ajaton, hänen vaatteensa ovat mielenkiintoinen sekoitus jonkinlaista keskiaikaa sekoitettuna valtakunnan omiin pukeutumiskoodeihin. Hänen vaatteensa ovat valkoiset korostaen siten hänen sukunimensä merkitystä, mutta koskaan ei  parane unohtaa sitä, että ulkonäkö voi pettää...

Those songs aren't actually related to the character in any way but they've been my background music every time I write. That's why I linked them here.
But let me tell about the character now.
His name is Sylvar Fidus. At the beginning I considered him as an elf (like Elrond or Legolas, not like Dobby) but now I see him more as a sage. He is very cold at heart and cynical character and he basically trusts nobody. His clan lives in the forest but he himself has been taken from there to serve the king. If he hadn't become a servant of the king he would have been executed.
His last name means 'loyal' but he is only loyal to those who deserve it in his opinion. If his trust is betrayed he doesn't think twice - he just gets his revenge. Usually he is more cunning than his opponent but his own weakness is overthinking things: he thinks too much and starts to doubt even himself.
Even though the kingdom he lives in is almost timeless, his clothing style is an interesting mix of medieval times and the kingdom's own style. His clothes are white which means purity and loyalty, but remember: it might not be what it seems...

Housut, vyö ja kengät minulla olivatkin käytännössä jo valmiina, sillä otan ne Levi-cossistani. Ne ovat tarpeeksi hyvässä kunnossa palvellakseen Sylvariakin. Toki pientä kulumajälkeä on, mutta se on ihan hyväkin. Mikään ei saa toki olla rikki, mutta ei myöskään varsinaisesti täysin puhtoista. Vaikka puku onkin käytännössä kokonaan valkoinen, on värisävyeroja huomattavasti. Sylvar on melko korkea-arvoinen, mutta hän on silti vain palvelija, joten hänen vaatteensa kursitaan kasaan niistä materiaaleista, joita sattuu löytymään.
Vaatteet ovat melko yksinkertaiset, mutta kuitenkin huolitellut. Kyseessä ovat käytännössä hänen normaalit vaatteensa, juhlia varten hänellä on parempia ja metsäreissuja varten huonompia vaatteita. Kaavut ovat edestä avonaiset, sillä hänen on kiireessäkin ennätettävä tarttumaan miekkaan, jos jokin vaara uhkaa kuningasperhettä - vaikka ennemmin hän suojelisi kansaa kuninkaalta. Päällimmäiseen kaapuun on kirjottu valtakunnan tunnuskasvi, jota en nyt vielä tässä vaiheessa kerro, sillä se on oleellinen vasta myöhemmin.

At first: the parts of the costume,

I already have the trousers, the belt and the shoes since I take them from my Levi costume. They're in good enough condition to serve Sylvar too. Of course they don't look like they were new but in this case it's only a good thing. Of course nothing can be completely broken but I don't want anything to look too clean. Even though the costume is almost completely white there are differences between the shades of colours. Sylvar might be pretty high-ranked but he is still just a servant so his clothes are made of those pieces of fabrics which have no other use.
His clothes are pretty simple but not too simple - they have style. These are his casual clothes, for parties he has better clothes and for the hunting trips to the forest he has worse clothes. The robes are open at the front since he has to be able to take his sword quickly if there's a danger near the royal family - even though he would prefer protecting the citizens to protecting the king. In one of the robes is also a big emroidery which represents the plant after which the kingdom has been named. I won't tell it now because it isn't important just yet.

Peruukki/The wig

Peruukki on Taurielin hahmoperuukki, jonka tilasin AliExpressiltä. Hinta oli muistaakseni noin viisitoista euroa, postikuluja ei ollut.
Peruukki on juuri oikean pituinen, ei purista päätä ja näyttää lisäksi melko luonnolliselta. Tuli hirvittävä hinku cossata myös Taurielia, vaikka kyseinen leidi nyt ei olekaan edes varsinaisesti suosikkihahmoni.
Miinuksia en tästä peruukista löydä etsimälläkään. Olin ensin aika skeptinen tämän tilaamisen suhteen, sillä sivustolla useampi myyjä möi tätä tuotetta samalla tuotekuvalla. Valitsin kuitenkin oikein, sillä tämä peruukki todella täyttää kaikki odotukseni.

The wig is a character wig for Tauriel. I ordered this fake hair from AliExpress. If I remember correctly the price was something like 15 euros. Shipping costs: none.
The wig is the exact length I wanted it to be, it doesn't cause me the headache and it also looks pretty natural. Now I also want to cosplay Tauriel even though the said lady isn't one of my favourite characters.
I can't find negative sides about this wig at all. At first I was pretty sceptical about ordering this since many sellers used the same pic of the product. I made the right choice though since this wig fulfills all of my expectations.

Kruunu/The crown

Tässä teurastettiin retkipatja. Mittasin päänympärykseni, piirsin kuvion patjaan, irrotin kappaleen mattoveitsellä ja istuin sitten parikymmentä minuuttia puristamassa kappaleen päitä yhteen, jotta liima tarttuisi.
Paitakuvassa näkyy hopeaiseksi maalattu kruunu, joka on käytännössä jo valmis.

I killed a training mat (is that even a word in English) in this project. I just took the measure of my head, drew the thing on the mat, cut the piece off and then sat about twenty minutes at the same spot squeezing the ends of the piece together to make the glue stick in between them.
In the shirt pic you can see the crown painted with silver paint. The thing is actually ready.

Paita/The shirt

Paita on tehty topin kaavoilla, mutta vain pidemmäksi ja ilman muotolaskoksia. Paita on tehty vanhasta lakanasta, jonka mummulta jokin aika sitten pelastin, jottei se joutuisi roskiin. Kangas oli täynnä reikiä, mutta vähän aikaa kun väänsi ja käänsi, niin kyllä siitä paidan aikaiseksi sai! Sen on tarkoituskin pysyä hihattomana.
Kuvassa paita on harsittu kasaan, mutta suunnilleen tuolta (tosin huolitellummalta) se tulee oikeastikin näyttämään.

The shirt has been made with the patterns of a simple top - only that his shirt is longer and it isn't so tight-fitting. The shirt is made out of an old sheet which I saved from my grandmother - she was about to throw it into the rubbish bin. The fabric was full of holes but I finally managed to make a shirt out of it! I won't make sleeves for this.
In the pic the pieces have just been sewn together but in the end it will look like that - except that it will look better.

Otin Levistä aikanaan WIP-kuvia todella vähän, sillä aika oli muutenkin tarpeeksi kortilla tuon cossin kanssa, joten länttään tähän nyt cossikuvan. Mutta siis, nuo kengät ja nuo housut päätyvät myös osaksi Sylvaria.
Pitäisi kai Levikin joskus shootata kunnolla. Jonkun toisen harnessien kanssa tosin, tarkistin noiden kunnon juuri eilen ja totesin, ettei niistä ole enää mihinkään senkään vertaa, mihin niistä joskus oli.

There aren't many WIP pics of Levi since I ran out of time with this costume. Because of the lack of the WIP pics, have a pic my friend took of me. But yeah, those shoes and those trousers will be part of Sylvar too.
I guess that I should have a photoshoot for Levi someday too. With someone else's harnesses though, I just checked the condition of those ones I made and realized that I really can't use them anymore. Their condition has become worse than last year.

Seuraava WIP-postaus Sylvarista ilmaantuu heti, kun saan jostakin noiduttua itselleni lisää kangasta. Lisäksi panostan myös Draco Malfoy-cossiini tällä hetkellä. Myös Chikane ja mahdollisesti myös Icy pitäisi viimeistellä... No, onhan tässä aikaa.

The next WIP post about Sylvar will be published when I get myself more fabric somewhere and manage to sew something. I'm also making my Draco Malfoy costume these days. I should also finish making Chikane and probably Icy... Well, I have time.
